If we give a simple definition, we will say that a swimming pool is an object with an artificially closed body of water, which is used for swimming for sports or recreation. However, for all Kotorans, the City Pool "Zoran Džimi Gopčević" is not only a place where water polo is practiced as a sport and swimming as a recreation, but also the cultural and historical heart of the city. This pool is a witness to numerous sports feats of the "Primorac" team and key moments in the history of water polo in Montenegro. Over the years, the City Pool has hosted numerous tournaments and events that shaped not only the sports scene of Kotor, but also gave birth to new generations of sports talents.
Leopold (Lav) Netović, the founder and first president of the "Sports Association Primorac", left an indelible mark in the history of sports in Kotor. The club was founded in 1922, and from then until today, it has been the center of sports activities, from water polo to football, swimming and rowing. Netović's passion for sports and innovative spirit led to the informal beginnings of sports in Kotor even before the First World War. It is precisely because of this legacy that the City Swimming Pool is a key part of the overall experience of the city, a place where the young hopes of Montenegrin sports developed, and a place where top talents flourished! |
From the first steps of water polo in Kotor to winning the title of European champion in 2009, Gradski Bazen witnessed the incredible development of water polo and sports in Montenegro. As the host of numerous tournaments and events, the pool became a place where top water polo players, coaches and sports leaders were born.
Our goal is to continue the tradition of developing young talent and promoting water polo as a sport that brings the community together. Through our programs and initiatives, we want to inspire new generations to play water polo and to build a bright future for this wonderful sport together.
