The Vičević family made a great contribution to the sport of water polo in Kotor. At the end of 2007, they came up with the idea of forming a new water polo entity, which they would call the Cattaro Water Polo Academy.
The Founding Assembly was held on February 26, 2008, and the presentation of the team and professional staff was held on April 24, 2008, with the presence of the President of the Municipality of Kotor, Marija Maja Ćatović, the President of the Assembly of the PVS of Montenegro Boro Mračević, the Selector of the Montenegro National Team Petar Porobić and representatives of most water polo clubs from Montenegro.
The Cattaro Water Polo Academy was registered in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media on March 7, 2008. In 2012, normative acts were harmonized with the new law on sports and re-registration was carried out in the Directorate for Sports and Youth.
A coaching staff was formed from well-known water polo experts: Pavle, Slob, Mirko and Željko Vičević, then Veljko Uskokvić, Nenad Vukanić, Srđan Barba and Ivan Bjelobrković, later Nebojša Milić and Mladjan Tujković. The Academy successfully competes in the Championship and the Cup of Montenegro, as well as when finances permit in the Regional League and the LEN Cup.
The first women's team in Montenegro was formed and played the first game with the JUG team, and won second place at the "Trofej Beograd 2008" tournament.
He achieved his greatest success in 2010 by winning the LEN Trophy, defeating the Savona team in Kotor.
VA "Cattaro" is the winner of the biggest award of the city of Kotor - the "21 November" award, and in 2016 it was declared the most successful sports collective.
It should also be noted that in the past period, over 400 participants were registered in the younger categories, and over 70 for the first team and 65 for the women's team, which unfortunately no longer exists after 2014.
With the new Sports Law of 2018, Cg is among the first sports collectives to successfully implement the re-registration process.
After the 2023 election year, the club will be headed by Janko Racković as president, while the president of the assembly is Predrag Bjelobrković.
