Leopold (Lav) Netović was the founder and first president of the "Sports Association Primorac", founded in 1922, which, in addition to water polo, had football, swimming and rowing sections. The informal beginnings of sports in Kotor date back to before the First World War, and it was high school teacher Netović, who brought the first ball to Kotor in 1909, and popularized the game of soccer among students, which then conquered a large part of Europe. A special sports club "Primorac" that had a water polo and swimming section was formed in 1926. In the same year, we have the first information about a water polo match played between "Jadran" from Herzegnov and "Primorac" from Kotor. The beginnings of water polo in the city are linked to the location near today's "Slobode" park and where the summer pool is today. Thanks to the funds of the Government of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, a swimming pool is being built, which has been in use since 1954. It was precisely this that was an important prerequisite for the faster progress of swimming and water polo and the increasingly significant results of the club in numerous competitions.
Until the end of the fifties, "Primorac" was an amateur club of republican rank. A historic moment for the development of "Primorac" occurred in 1959, when Trifun Miro Ćirković came from the championship team "Jadran" to "Primorac", which was then in the lowest tier of the competition. Already in September of that year, Primorac, as the champion of Montenegro, became a member of the Second Federal League at the qualifying tournament. Led by Miro Ćetković as a player and coach at the qualifying tournament two years later, in the Garda pool in Topčider, with a victory over "Crven Zvezda", "Primorac" became the first division. A year later, in 1962, "Primorac" was relegated from the First League, to which it returned again in 1964 and remained there until the collapse of the former Yugoslavia.
On November 6, 1984, a winter swimming pool was opened in a spectacular way in Kotor, built with the support of the citizens of the Kotor municipality. This, at the time, expensive investment of around three million dollars, only five years after the devastating earthquake, was achieved by the persistence of the local forces, who were in responsible positions - municipal president Vuko Radulović, head of the municipal government Ivica Županović, chief operative in the then SIZ- in social activities, Dragan Đurčić and especially Miloš Vuković, director of HTP "Fjord", who contributed to the pool getting the status of an economic investment.
The spectacle at the opening was complete, almost three thousand spectators in the stands and around the pool.
Zoran Gopčević, an active player of "Primorac" and medal holder from the biggest competitions of the national team, had the honor of opening the pool.
After the protocol, the first match of the First Federal League "Primorac" - "Jadran" Herceg Novi followed, which the Kotor team won convincingly 13-3, although the first goal in the new pool was scored by Jadran's ace Stanko Zloković. The winter swimming pool in Kotor, whose first director was Dragan Bačanović, became the center of events and the host of strong tournaments, club and representative, and a real bastion of water polo, where excellent water polo players, as well as coaches, judges, and officials emerged.
Already in the 1985/86 season, "Primorac" won the double crown, becoming the champion and winner of the SFR Yugoslavia cup. The entire playing staff and professional staff, as well as the entire club administration, were from Kotor, which gives this success a special charm.
The first major international feat was achieved at the Cup finals in Milan in 1977, when they finished second behind Ferencvaros from Hungary, while in 1986 they reached the semi-finals of the European Champions Cup, where Primorac stopped the German champion Spandau, who in those years rocked European water polo.
At the final tournament in Kotor, in 2002, he won the FRY Cup, while Primorac, by winning the national championship in 2007, became the first state champion in independent Montenegro. The same triumph was repeated in 2008, and the following state awards included the cup.
In 2009, water polo players from Primorje won the title of European champion.
In the final of the final tournament in Rijeka, Kotor defeated the favored Pro Reko with 8:7.
Ranko Perović's team achieved a historic success, and Adam Štanjmec scored the deciding goal in overtime.
Zdravko Radića, Draško Brguljan, Damir Crepulja, Toni Petrović, Darko Brguljan, Jurij Zatović, Gergelji Kiš, Vjekoslav Pasković, Boris Pavlović, Bojan Milošević, Adam Štajnmec, Dragan Drašković and Nebojša Milić played for the Primorje team.
In 2010, Primorac again played in the Champions League final in Naples, but was defeated by Pro Rek in this game.
