"SOCIAL INCLUSION IN MONTENEGRO": THE FINAL SWIMMING EVENT AT THE POOL OF KOTOR

18. 04. 2024.

At the "Zoran Džimi Gopčević" swimming pool this Sunday, April 21, the date will be reserved for the fifteenth, final swimming event within the "Social Inclusion in Montenegro" project.

The first swimming event, which starts at 12 noon, will be dedicated to elderly people with physical disabilities, as well as patients who are housed in the "Dobrota" Special Hospital for Psychiatry. In the second swimming event, starting at 1 p.m., school-aged children, as well as children with developmental disabilities, participate.

In cooperation with the Old People's Home "Grabovac" Risan, the day care center for the elderly and persons with disabilities in Rakite, the Hearing and Speech Resource Center "Dr. Peruta Ivanović" and the Special Hospital for Psychiatry "Dobrota", in previous swimming events the elderly and people with physical and mental disabilities, children with developmental disabilities, as well as young people with hearing and/or speech impairments. The project team encourages the mutual interaction of different vulnerable groups at swimming events, points out the importance of sport in everyday life and promotes sport as an inclusive tool in which everyone is equal, regardless of which vulnerable group they belong to.

Every Sunday from January 28, swimming events are organized for different vulnerable groups in our city, who, under the supervision of an expert - a physiotherapist, do adapted exercises in the pool, so that they help in the range of their movements or strength, depending on the general condition and needs.

We hope that this project will encourage the citizens of Kotor to come to the "Zoran Džimi Gopčević" Pool and to support social inclusion through physical activity by participating in swimming events.

In the previous year, the Municipality of Kotor started the implementation of the "Social Inclusion in Montenegro" project, the aim of which is to implement activities aimed at the inclusion and social integration of vulnerable groups, especially people with disabilities whose physical and sensory abilities are impaired in the long term, through sports practice, in with the goal of sensori-motor and psychophysical recovery, promoting physical activity as a rehabilitative, educational and social practice. The project is financially supported by the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
